“I got a feeling about political correctness. I hate it. It causes us to lie silently instead of saying what we think.” ~ H. Holbrook

I keep thinking of that aborted fetus. It seems to be forever burnt into my brain. The terrible irony of it all is that we live in such an over sensitive, politically correct country. We are in a time and place where I am not supposed to say, “That’s gay” or “That’s retarded”, yet I have to drive down the road and see a billboard 50 feet in the air of a dead baby. How does this equate to any form of normal?
I am all for everyone being able to speak there minds; I love the 1st amendment but I can not tolerate double fucking standards. It seems as if free speech is only for those that nod their heads in agreement with each other and everyone else is supposed to shut the fuck up? Two generations, give or take, have come up in to the world after me and they or over sensitive, coddled babies. What is our solution for this dilemma, well we placate them; we remove whatever offends them and their ever so fragile minds.
Let me clear my throat here.

I am not offended by the beginning portion of whatever the hell it is that I am talking about. Quite the opposite actually, for very little offends me. What DOES offend me is people who ARE offend by the things that others do but could care less about their offensive actions and the damage that they may cause. Or maybe I am just trying to see how many times I can use the word “offend” in a blog. (10)
Change the channel or better yet, turn the fucking thing off if you do not like what you are seeing. When you drive by the “Imagine No Religion” billboard, don’t look up. Or do what I do; write about whatever is bothering you for it is very therapeutic. But DO NOT TRY TO TAKE IT AWAY! Who are you to shape OUR world? Not that I do not value all of the Bill of Rights but I think part of our picture tube is out of focus when we care more about guns than free speech. Both are just as important yet one is trampled on and the other is wrapped in the shatter-proof glass and is virtually untouchable.

Do not twist my words because I am actually pro-gun. But I will defend your right to say what you like to the death, yours, not mine. Seriously, I may hate what you stand for and the idiocy that you spew but I would NEVER stifle your right to say it. Isn’t that one of the things that is supposed to make us different? Then why are we silent? Why are we so politically correct? If your feelings are hurt by something someone says, isn’t that your issue? And as usual, I will contradict myself and say that it is perfectly nature to be offended, just as it is perfect normal to intentionally offend someone.
Screw it, it’s all getting jumbled up inside and it is very convoluted in my head. A log jam of sarcasm; a horrible accident on the highway and I am caught red-handed rubbernecking as the cars and trucks slowly creep on by.

There are those that fear we’ve become desensitized but I argue the opposite. Of course it depends on what you mean by the words but as a whole, we as a nation have become hypersensitive. Everything we say and do is wrong to someone else and we are to expect this the minute we walk out of the front door of our houses; someone, somewhere is going to be offended by our heathen ways and eventually, the world will be silent and blindness will creep in.
“Political correctness does not legislate tolerance; it only organizes hatred” ~ J. Barzun
Why worry about things that do not directly affect me, you say? Because they DO affect me; they affect us all, as well as infect us. The skewed view of just how the world should be has spilled over into our reality. While we should all stand behind the minority, the little guy, the so called everyday, average Joe, because that was and is the intent of this country, we should not stand behind whack jobs that tell us what we can and can not say or do. (Run on sentence) I think that the new definition of retarded should be someone that takes themselves way too seriously . . .

You have me at a complete disadvantage here for I cannot decide what I prefer more, the write itself for its raw truth, the mock-up ads for their fitting sarcasm, or the chosen quotes for their undeniable honesty, but all of these combine to create quite a remarkable read, one that makes you think and thinking is never a bad thing even if most wish we didn’t do it or express it so often
Political correctness ~ much like politics & religion seems to have gone to the extreme, and any extreme is just a step away from becoming an “isms” ; I should know because I’m Canadian and thus a socialist. What? Did you detect the subtle sarcasm? ::giggles:: Honestly, any one with even an intro to any Poli/Sci class knows that Canada is far from Socialist; Dude, we’re frickin’ Communist man!
What, too sarcastic? Is there such a thing as too sarcastic?
When it comes to political correctness, I cannot help but recall the very long drive to that huge restaurant we went to last year ~ for my birthday, that surreal billboard that proudly touted; “No longer afraid. A new Juvenile detention center; keeping your community safe.”
I was shocked. With mouth agape I turned to you asking if that was some kind of joke. What other message is there than fear mongering? “Step out of line kid, we lock you up.” And following that were the aborted fetus and puppy mill billboards, but it’s “Imagine No Religion” that garnered public outrage and thus media attention?
How complètement fucké (excuse my French) is that? Imagine if you and I had a billboard what it would say… Oh, the possibilities, the truths… Not to mention the issuing public outcry to enforce/shame us into acceptable silence.
Which of course, we would only make us take out more ; )
What can I say, your comment was excellent and fit right in. Go figure! I do not want a billboard though, I want an Ice Cream truck with a huge mega-phone on it.
I do adore the double standard of the billboard issue though. It reminds me of John Nada when he first puts on the “special” glasses and see the world as it really is.
“I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass and I am all out of bubble gum!”
I find myself more and more these days asking myself WWJWD? What would John Wayne do. Theoretically anything anyone says these days could be cause for offense. It’s bullshit. When did this nation become so pussified that kids can’t celebrate Halloween in school anymore because someone might get offended. I mean the list goes on and on. It’s all a matter of choice and I agree with you, change the channel if your offended, keep your kid home from school if you have an objection to a holiday celebration. I find that I have a moral obligation not to get offended and that is how I am trying to raise my kid. You can not have diversity in politically correct times and the shame of it is future generations are going to grow up in a vanilla (or chocolate wouldn’t want to offend anyone) world were everything will be sterilized. God it’s fucking scary.
@Tony Sirloin
You say John Wayne, I say Bruce Campbell. But seriously Tony, now that you commented, the picture of the smoking, drinking, pregnant woman above reminds me of the people you described in the Teachers meeting.
Then again, we can’t even take a bag of nuts to school anymore because 1 kids may have a nut allergy. I guess these people never heard of an EpiPen? Oh and no Advil or Aspirin or you will get supsended. I always thought we were meant to evolve and not devolve. Maybe that is my fault for thinking.
Thanks for stopping in Tony.
