It Does NOT Take A Village

null

People are always trying to change my view of the world. They tell me that I should have “happy” thoughts. They tell me I am too negative but it is all in the perception of things where we get lost. Am I argumentative, yes I am and I am quite okay with it. Do I enjoy playing Devil’s Advocate, why yes, yes I do if it gives another side of the story and or vice versa. But I’ve got to tell you, idiots make it very hard to play nice.

What inspired this besides my general distain for people in general? Something called “The Parents Television Council” did. Well, it started with a Reese’s ad but really it is and always will be Joan Rivers fault. To be fair, I am not a fan of Joan and never have been and that has nothing to do with the fact that her face looks like over used silly putty. Whose idea was this and were they executed afterwards? First and foremost, probably 1,000 people watched the roast to begin with and then there is the fact that it was on after 10 p.m. Then there is the whole can of worms called: Who the fuck are you to tell people how to parent, when you can’t even do it right yourself?

Here is a link to their list of past and present shows. If you click on any particular show your will be taken to another page with the Green light to Red light rating system. Odd, if you actually do this you will see that there is almost nothing on television that they find acceptable viewing for children and/or family viewing. We are in agreement in that issue except for two completely different reasons. Their reason is because they are a bunch of controlling Nazis’ and my reason because most shows on television are pure shit.

The Never-ending List

We could do several things to remedy this situation but sadly due to the Patriot Act, I can not speak of them so I will give a few PC suggestions (yeah, okay). They could all come over to my house and I could give them a nice, tall glass of shut the fuck up for starters. After that here are a few suggestions for parents who probably know this already:

1.) If you have anything more than a basic cable package, you can “block” certain channels. But isn’t it easier to just be a parent and monitor what your children are watching? I mean, they are going to be subjected to a million and one things that you don’t want them exposed to anyhow, so at least you know that when they ask you what “fuck” means when they get home from school, you know it wasn’t your fault for letting them watch Comedy Central or anything else deemed “inappropriate” by the PTC.

2.) If you are going to let your kids watch television, watch it WITH them. Why would you let an inanimate object parent your child? Even if you are getting up and doing things in between, you at are still present. If you schedule is that busy then maybe you should have bred in the first place.

3.) Drum roll please: TURN IT OFF. I know I am from a different generation but we were only allowed so much television a day. Just like video games and being on the computer: time is rationed. It’s called structure and all kids want it even though they act as if they do not. Go outside and play; read a book; play a game as a family.

We have all of these different groups telling us what we should and should not do and guess what, we don’t need them. We have the Federal Government for that and well we see on a daily basis just how swell of a job they do.

It’s like someone telling me to stop writing on MY website because I bitch too much. So, do I bitch too much or do I just talk about things that make you think or that you just want to pretend aren’t there? If we do not talk about the things that we think are wrong in our society, well, we get what we have here. One step forward, two steps back and we are oh so close to a wonderful fine dystopia.

So, in closing, if it is their job to tell us what is acceptable viewing for our families then it is my job to tell them that they are idiots. If I do not take the advice of Dr. Phil or the almighty Oprah I am surely not going to listen to these buffoons’. It all boils down to common sense, a rare commodity in this day and age. To parent or not to parent, it’s a statement, not a question.

Post Script ~ After further research it is laughable at best. The PTC, I mean. They claim to be nonpartisan but if one takes about 2 minutes out of their day and does a little digging, anyone with sight can see that they are indeed a socially conservative organization. Not that I have a problem with blind people or anything. Just throw cat and you’ll hit another social sub-label.

In voicing their biased complaints and flashing their holier-than-thou red lights “The Parents Television Council” not only expose their Achilles heal ~ that no one asked for them, and no one with a cognitive mind needs them, but also display such an obviously conservative agenda that very few ~ besides Anne-Ugly Coulter & her chubby-buddy Rush, pay them any mind much less any credence or respect.

I take issue with any one or any thing that attempts to parent for me ~ always have, always will. I do not allow my parents to “parent” my children so why in Christ would I turn to a website, magazine, or listen to some heavily kick-backed government official spout unsolicited opinions and vapid platitudes when doing so accomplishes nothing but granting them license to judge and condemn.

Movie critics earn a salary to rate films, but has any one (besides me) ever asked what their ratings are based on? No. But common sense tells you any and all reviews are based on “personal opinion” ~ and thus, what is right for Joe The Plumber may not be the chosen fair of Professor Tweed Jacket. And yet, you’ve got Sally No Brains bitching about how some critic never warned her of certain upsetting themes in a particular film; “The Gladiator was too violent! There was too much blood!” Hey No Brains, what do you think gladiators did, play scrabble and knit? ::eye roll::

No matter where you go. No matter how prepared you think you are. The level of “Stupid” never ceases to amaze, and “The Stupids” appear to be one hell of an extended family!

What “parent” in their right mind (they obviously do not have one) would allow their child to watch Comedy Central ~ let alone after the sun goes down? What did the idiot think a “roast” was, a cooking lesson? Why go after a company that chose to advertise (to adults) during the show; do you think only kids like Reeses peanut butter cups?

    Wow, the level of stupid!

As for the shows they deemed to red-flag; go “parent” your own kids. I do not need you.

      Damn woman!

As I am sure you saw “The List”, CSI was of course a big “Red Light”.

I thought we were supposed to tear down walls, not supply the concrete to build them.

PS ~ As always, thank you.
      ::wink wink::
